JUDGE WEINMAN FINDS HUSD GUILTY

President's Message
By Jim Pace, H.T.A President

On April 29th, 2005 Judge Weinman finds HUSD guilty of retaliation. In her proposed decision she issues the following:

HUSD CEASE AND DESIST FROM

1. Retaliating against employees because of their exercise of the right to engage in protected activities by issuing disciplinary documents, placing them on administrative leave, and conducting investigations into their conduct.

2. Interfering with employees' protected rights by telling them to "get on board" or look for another job.

3. Denying to HTA the right to represent its members.

Everyone needs accountability. Teachers, parents, principals and even superintendents all need accountability. We will be looking forward to see what steps will be taken to assure that this never happens again.

If you would like to read the full decision issued by Judge Weinman, you may E-mail me @ hesperiateachers.com (e-mail the president)

Together we make a difference,

Jim Pace, HTA President

UPDATE: Upcoming Rally May 25. Talk to your Rep for details.

SECRETARY'S REPORT

by Claudia Ethun
HTA Secretary

The last Rep. Council meeting was held on April 26, 2005. The HTA office will be open the First Tuesday of every month from now on for our membership to come in and get acquainted as well as share their concerns. The last "open office" day was May 3, 2005.

Our HTA recently contributed scholarship money to both the AVID and AP programs at our secondary schools.

May 25, 2005, will be a rally in Los Angeles to speak out against Governor's initiatives. A train will take teachers from San Bernardino to Los Angeles. If you are interested in attending the rally contact your site rep or call Jim Pace about the details.

The final Rep. Council meeting of the year was held on Thursday, May 19, 2005, at the Top of the Lake at Silver Lakes, at 5:00 P.M.

The Rep. Council accepted a letter written by the E-Bd. inviting our School Board members to attend our monthly Rep. Council meetings next year. We will have an open time period each meeting where Board members are invited to attend. Our goal is to encourage more open communications between the School Board and HTA.

Have a great and restful summer, everyone.

We'll see you in school year 2005-2006!
